oil ring question

so i am just replacing my rings on my ca18 Stock bore and stock rings etc, just had a hone....i will try to explain this the best i can....the middle oil ring that was allready on the piston looks like this at the joint

and the new OEM one i got looks like this

now i tried putting it on the way it came out of the pack but it doesnt squish right.....my question is should i clip the little tab the goes up so that it overlaps like it was before?

hope that is enough explination....i couldnt take a pic as cuz the cam would focus on tha small of thing!

The oil control ring's end does not interlock, so when you put it on, that's basically good enough.
