i am gunna be swapping turbos this w/e and i really dont want any surpises, i was wondering where the oil restrictor is if any. is it on the block/line/turbo? i havnt really looked on the line to see if there is one my options are is that i have 4 an line and was wondering if that would be a good enough restriction for a t28 non bb or not? or i can go 6 an line without refiting my 4 an line, but not sure about restriction if its needed or thats over kill or what?

You need a restrictor. It helps prevent premature turbo failure. I do believe all the t28's have a built in oil restrictor right at the oil feed. I would also use the 4an line. 6an is going to be overkill.

The oil restrictors are only built into the Garrett GT series turbos as they are very sensitive to oil pressures. I know for sure there is no restriction in the Mitsu 16G turbos. Same with the Garrett non-BB turbos. There is a restrictor on the port that comes out of the block on the CA.

I'm running a BB T28 with the taka lines (I think they're 4AN) w/o the stock oil restrictor and I have no problems whatsoever.

Thats because the GT turbos have built-in restrictors! If they didn't noobs would be blowing the seals out left and right and calling Garrett asking for a warranty claim.

Actually some mitsu 20G turbos have restrictors built into them. I know mine does, and so do alot of the ones at forced performance.

When I hooked up the supply for my t3 I pulled it off of my filter adapter (I use a remote filter with a cooler) so I could get the coolest oil possible. I started off running a -4 line and promptly blew the seal on my new turbo . I swapped it for a -3 and replaced the stock seal with an upgraded one and haven't had any problems since! fwiw...
