i have an 07 g35 coupe and i'm coming up on its first oil change, i'm thinking of going with royal purple cause i heard its the best oil around but the only one i saw at the auto store was 10w-30, my engine says 5w-30...if i used 10w-30 would it hurt me or take away any performance from the vehicle

10W is a thicker oil than 5W so it could be harder to start in the winter and the fuel mileage could go down. The difference is more pronounceinconvnetional motor oils rather than synthetic. Stic with the manual's recommendation of 5W. I use Mobil 1.

Ditto on sticking with the 5W-30. I use the M1 extended performance, with changes every 4000-4500 miles. The 5qt jug is so convenient at Wal-Mart. I saw the Royal Purple there, but some quick research on http://www.bobistheoilguy.com forums made me decide against the Royal Purple.

I buy 5 to 6 jugs at a time! Good deal!!!!I have 4 cars in the driveway that I have to do oil changes on plus my oldest son and his gf which makes 6. One of the reasons I stay with M1 is that the 5 qrt jugs are cheap.

Actually, my son buys her the regular dino juice, but she does get it put in for free here, plus I check her car out while I'm changing the oil.

The other 5 cars have my name on them, so they all get M1!

I use Penzoil 5w-30, Quaker State or whatever is on sale. I change the oil myself every 3k -3.5k miles. I've been doing this for over 40 years on all my vehicles. Do a search on oil changes.

I go 3K on dino juice.3.5K to 4K on Synthetic.I think if you change it before 4K it's really not going to matter too much.I use syn cause I've been told it makes my engine more happy due to less wear. Have also read that it gives (or frees up) a little hp.

But, telcoman is right. Do some more searches.

Are you wanting to extend the time between oil changes? Minimize your cost? Make your engine a little more 'happy'? Everyone here has different objectives, priorities and opinions.

thanks for the tip, i'm not looking to extend beyond normal oil change intervals but i heard that royal purple is the best oil for cars and you can go a little longer in between changes like up to 7000 miles

I'd keep searching cause I've heard people rave about how good royal purple is as well as amsoil. I don't think I would rule royal purple out.Like I said, Im sticking with M1.
