I have a pretty much stock KA24 (just has an HKS exhaust) and I need to change the oil in about 1000 miles. I just got the car so it'll be the first change that I've done on it. I run 87 octane crap gas since I'm not running boost or anythign. I drive the car often in traffic here in chicago, and beat on it pretty good sometimes. It has 108,000 miles. What would be a good oil for me to use? The car will never see freezing temps since I go to school in the south. I'd prefer to get a cheaper oil until I go turbo eventually, but if a good synthetic will be better for my engine, I'll use it. I was thinking about Mobil1 5W40, but its kinda pricey. Thanks!

if you can afford synthetic, get it, i use dino oil, valvoline 10w-40, and nissan filter ( avalible through dealer) or napa gold, they are the same from what i hear. there is a sticky at the top of the tech page about oil.

If you just got the car, and if you don't know the car condition, and if you never use synthetic oil in the engine...

I will recommend blend/semi-synthetic oil... instead of full synthetic. The reason behind this is because the seal in your engine might have been degrade over years, and the good cleaning engine in synthetic oil might wash away the dirt that help to seal your engine. Therefore, seme-synthetic/blend is highly recommended.

Here is to the thread about engine oil from our holy PalmerWMD.http://www.nissaninfiniticlub....t=oil

Here is a good source of engine tech info:http://www.chris-longhurst.com....html

Enjoy :)

p/s: For my personal perference, I use Mobil 1 0-40, Mobil 1 5-40, Valvoline DuraBlend 10-40. Oil filter. WIX.

I use nissan filters with Mobil 1 10w-30 in my KA and my SR. Although I'm planning on comparing the mobil 1 with Motul and redline soon enough though.

For my SR.....I use the 10w30 "High Performance" Synthetic oil from Quaker State that says its specially made for turbo/supercharged cars with an oil filter from the dealer.

Since our Datsun is 24 years old we did have off brand oil filters on it. But recently we decided all Nissan vehicles we own and drive will go back to using Nissan parts. I bought a Nissan oil filter for around $6.00 (price flucuates from $3 to $6) and I use Castrol GTX 10w-30. The 240sx is running 40weight (I believe because of tapping lifter which helps it not to tap). I also bought a fuel filter and air filter for total of $12.00. So you figure $18.00 was spent (not including case of oil bought from Auto Supply) and thats not expensive compared to other non-Nissan brands. Not to get off subject, on the other vehicle we use Wix oil filters. Occassionally Wix air filter. The 240sx has K&N air filter in her. No matter what the cars get the good treatment. Back on subject, Valvoline (sp?) is good oil to use as well.

I don't care for Quakerstate at all. I used it once and it was a have to situation on my old car. I used it once and that car never saw it again. Mobil and the others are good to use.

Castrol is an excellent choice if you do not want to pay for a synthetic.

Oil filters vary in quality and you generally get what you pay for, but under NO circumstances should you buy FRAM for a KA. I don't have anything against the filter ( I use their Tough Gaurd series in my other cars) other than IT DOES NOT FIT THE ENGINE. Sorry for the all caps, but the filter says it is the correct one, and will screw on, but the rubber seal is in the wrong location. Bad and messy things then happen.
