Oil pump went out, rod knock came in

driving home from work i noticed that my oil light came on all of sudden and stayed on. i immediately turned the car off and pulled off the road. i knew it had plenty of oil b/c i check it religously and had just checked it that morning. I checked it anyways and it had plenty of oil. But when i cranked the car back up a rod was knocking.

Is my diagnostic of a bad oil pump correct? And is there any chance of replacing it and everything being fine again? Or is my motor kaput and replacing it is the only remedy.

This depends on how long you let the cr run with the knock, how long you actually waited to shut it off from light illumination. It may be a oil pump but it could be a restricted pick up tube as well. Best thing to do is start tear down and inspect the pickup and pump for any signes of a problem. pull the oil filter off and make sure there is no debris in there.
