i just recently got my 240 running and i believe the timing is still off. we double checked the chain when we put it on so its not there. i believe the oil pump shaft/distributor shaft is positioned wrong. i free handed a pic with paint to kinda show you where the shaft is. i have a ka24e.

anybody have any idea if thats near right? im not too sure on it. i saw a pic of the correct position on here once but i cant find it now. any help would be greatly appreciated. i just wanna get my car running right after 6 months of not having it .

We had the same problem when we rebuilt our KA24E. We just noted which way we needed to move it and re-moved and reinstalled the oil pump moveing the shaft each time untill we got it right.

Took us a few times as when the gears meshed it ended up back where we started. Just put marks on a peice of tape of where you started and check it before you bolt it back on. Just hold it in place while a friend checks the position did move the way you wanted.

OK, the flat section should be facing straight rearward. Also, on the oil pump there is a punch mark, there should be a similar marking on the spindle (the shaft) and you should line them up before installation. Now, you wont be able to put it in at the correct angle because the teeth on the drive gear aren't straight. Have someone watch the rotation as you put it in. I can't recall which way it turns. So, if you notice it turn clock-wise when installing it, turn it about 1 maybe 2 teeth counter clock-wise so that when it's fully in place, it will line up correctly.

we put it in time and when we started it up it ran great for the test drive and then on the next drive it started stalling and fluctuating between 500-1300 rpm. we checked a bunch of things and it turns out the alternator went out. the car was runnin on just battery power. ill be getting another alternator soon so ill see how it does after that. thanks for the help again with the timing.
