You need to get the crank sprocket off. Some can get it off with a pair of screwdrivers. Some need to cut and use a chisel to break it. Some heat it and beat it off.

The sprocket. You get a new one at the dealership. I would try heating it with a torch from the parts store and using a 3 jaw gear puller.

Do a search for "crank sprocket" or "crank gear".

it just seems like over kill to break the sprocket, the problem with using a 3 leg puller is the "hood" on the oil pump keeps you from getting the one leg on the top

A two-leg puller is a good choice to start with. Put the bolt in the nose of the crank so the puller has something to work against. You will soon find out what you are working with.

It's pretty common for them to rust themselves to the crank. You'll either want to drill and tap holes in it and build a plate that will let you pull it off that way, or you'll have to try to cut it and chisel it off.

heat it up, soak in in wd40/liquid wrench.

try and pry off

repeat until off.

In the case of a 200k+ motor, its rusted on, cut it off :P

I've worked on 3 ca's so far and all of the crank sprockets were removed by hand.... I guess i just got lucky...

Also, are you removing just the oil pump while the motor's still in the car?? Have you removed the pan yet??
