OK, I got the oil pan down enough to get to the oil pump. Still can't get the pan completely out though.

Now, I see 3 of the 4 bolts shown in the service manual that hold the pump in. These bolts go through the front of the block. I see the lower (long) and upper (short) ones on the left side, but only the lower one on the right side.

Is the upper one BEHIND the timing chain cover? That would be terrible, and I would think they would have mentioned this in the FSM. If not, where is it???

i've never done the oil pump replacement, but i've seen where it is and the 3 bolts that you mensioned, i'll research the location of the fourth bolt and get back to you.....

i think it reqires the removal of the crank pulley but that is not hard (all you need is 27mm socket, breaker bar, 14mm, and a flat head screw driver), and the lower timing belt cover is not hard to remove either (from what i remember it is 5x10mm screws) .... so if that is what you have to remove, then it should take an extra hour if you are taking your time... the only issue that might rise is holding the timing belt in place while replacing the pump....... i want to make sure that you understand that i'm only guessing at this point, i'm just preparing you tools-wise for it just in case

please take pictures, this has never been documented

Crank pulley is off. 5 bolts holding the lower cover are off. But it seems like this cover is still held on by the top covers, or additional bolts under the top covers.

Nonetheless, now I see that the pump has to come off the crank. Which means the timing belt has to come off. Which means the front covers, coolant pipes, etc. etc. have to come off. And which means re-tensioning the belt?

I'll send some pics.

ok up to now, this is what i found, there are six bolts holding the oil pump assy to the engine.... you have to take out the timing belt cover to get to 3 of them, you also have to remove the crank pully and the timing belt crank drive (the gear the holds the timing belt at the crank shaft), i think that one of the bolts that hold the oil pump also holds one side of the alternator bracket

three of the bolts that are hidden under the timing belt cover are shown herehttp://q45.org/gallery/v/Injec...dex=1

the timing belt gear at the drive shafthttp://q45.org/gallery/v/Injec....html

to remove the crank shaft pulley, you will need to remove the starter, and place the flathead screw driver so that it jams the flywheel, then use a a 27mm socket and a breaker bar to open the crankshaft pulley's bolt (i suggest using a penetrating lubricant at the crank shaft bolt before attempting to open it)

that is where you need to place the falt head screw driverhttp://q45.org/gallery/v/Injec....html

and that is how to pull the crank shaft pulley after the bolt has been loosened (once the bolt is loose, dont remove it just yet, loosen it about 3/4 of the way out, and place the pulley puller on it, it will make things much easier)

well we updated the post together.... send me an e-mail and i'll send you the timing belt replacement procedure, it will show you how to remove the timing belt cover, you really dont need to remove the coolant pipes, but you will most likely need to retension the timing belt.....

since you are there, might as well change the belt, thermostat, and water pump IMO

Why is necessary to remove the radiator?I've already got the fan and crank pully off. Sems like there's plenty of room.
