Most likely crank bearings are worn far enough that there's low oil pressure at idle...low enough to turn the light off. Then, when the rpm's rise, the light goes off because the pressure increased.
I'd say do a compression test. If all looks decent, yank the pan and crank assembly, throw a new set of bearings at it and rock on.
Most likely, the compression will also be low, since you're running an engine having over 230k miles on it (according to the sig.), in which case just find a new motor.
