First of 95 Hardbody ka24e with 72k second owner miles are correct. On cold starts can hear lifters rattle until oil light goes out half second maybe. The colder it is the louder. Now that the weather is warming up its not doing it as often. Motor warmed up never makes a tick. Recently had lifters out and bleed them. This truck sat for some time before I got it. I bought this truck with 52k miles just now starting to do this. Wondering if my oil pump is going out.

What grade of oil and which oil filter are you running?

Ideally you would hook up a mechanical pressure gauge to see the pressure at cold & hot idles.

Oil light comes on when it does it. Goes out instantly when stops. I use valveoline 10-30w with fram filter change every 2500-3000 miles. Never uses a drop between changes.

Fram filters have lousy construction (see this post). If you buy oil & filters at Wal-Mart, they are stocking Purolator Classic filters now and they are well constructed, similar to the PureONE filter shown in that thread. The PCs are also cheaper than the equivalent Fram filters. A Purolator Classic L24457 will fit your Hardbody. Fram filters sometimes have poorly sealing anti-drainback valves, which can cause your startup noise. I'd swap the filter out for something better. You can just swap the filter and top off any lost oil, no need to do a complete oil change.

5W-30 will also flow easier at cold startups than any 10W-30. Both grades have identical viscosity of a 30 grade oil at operating temperature so both will protect your engine equally. Since you're not losing any oil, you may want to switch to 5W-30 for less startup wear and a quicker warm-up of the oil.

I have been planning on switching to wix filter. I will try some 5-30 next oil change

Wix filters are excellent as well, as I mentioned in the linked post. Hopefully something as simple as a quality filter and some lighter oil at startup will minimize the startup noise. :)

Hopefully. Truck has 72k miles will try this. Either way it is getting parked to do timing body work trans fix. So if I have to oil pump wont be a big problem
