oil pump failur

The thread speaks for it's self. This is my third SOHC enigne that is being installed into my car. For the first 2 weeks it would be running find then like two three weeks later, the engine would run as if there was no oil in it when there was oil in it. It's the same symptoms with every engine. It would run brand new and then all of a sudden there would be a crank noise that tended to go away and then every otherday or so it would come back and it would get louder and louder and louder. the car would perfore slower and all the lights would dim out. i check the oil and the entire thing would be full. I would appreciated if ppl don't just tell me "get the sr" becasue im getting a RB come this fall.THANX!!

I don't know about that one. Something like that you can be chasing forever. does the oil light come on if it doesn't how much oil pressure are you getting. It should be somewhere in the 20's in lbs. warmed up in idle. could be a little less if you just came off the expressway. If you change your oil pump go to someone who specializes in oil pumps or go to the factory be cause pep boy's and auto zone will sell you second rate stuff and it'll just break again when you try to race or even drive a little harder than normal. But It could also be electrical. could be a bad sensor telling the engine one thing when it's not or a cracked vacume line. I would spend a couple of dollers at a shop to diagnos it so you now where exactly where to look. that has saved me alot of time in the past and it's something I would happily do at my shop for anyone who comes by.

the idiot light dosen't turn on at all. the only time when it comes on is when the engine shuts off and i try and turn it on again. i don't have any oil gauges in my car so i don't know the pressure. i check the dip stick and there is oil in engine. it reads full, but the car justs keep dieing.

Ok well next, lets try checking the vacume. I just finished a car today with that problem and it had all the same symptoms. Start the car and listen very carefully for a sucking sound like something is sucking in air could be very slight so you'll have to listen carefully. and visually inspect all the vacum lines you can and make sure they are all in the right spots. Some guy messed alll her stuff up. He mixed the vacume lines up and it cut off and ran like an old car. If that doesn't work check the electrical, ignition, grounds, alt, plugs fuses in the engine. Let me know what you find.
