How much slack is there supposed to be in the oil pump chain? I have replaced the guides in my engine and I put the oil pump chain on, adjusted the tension per the shop manual using a 1mm feeler gauge in between the upper guide and chain and now it seems to be a bit tight. I put pressure on the slack side of the chain by pressing down on the upper chain guide with the feeler gauge between them, snugged up the upper guide, removed the gauge, and now it feels a bit tight. Was I supposed to just slide the upper guide down to the point that it just touches the feeler gauge and chain?

Matt, I have never done this. All I can do is refer you to the posters who have. If you need help finding them, post here and I'll help find the posts.

I figured it out. After re-reading the manual again, it made more sense to me. I use the weight of the upper timing guide to set the correct tension on the chain with a 1mm feeler gauge between the guide and chain.
