I was just curious what oil pressure is supposed to read when you are priming the motor. My oil pressure gauge was barely getting past the 0.

Since oil pressure is dependent on the rpm of the motor I can't imagine that the starter will spin the motor fast enough to see any significant oil pressure. Just do like everyone else, and make sure the oil light goes out and watch through the oil cap to see oil squirting down on to the cam. I cranked until I saw the oil squirting, then cranked a couple more times for good measure. The whole process took probably 5 min. I only had to crank 4 times (for 15-20 sec each with a 30 sec break in between) until I saw oil squirting. And if the gauge doesn't go up after you finally get it running, then you got a problem.

Take the plugs out and crank it. you should see about 10~15 PSI. For good measure make sure oil is squirting out of the cam oiler before putting the plugs back in and firing her up.

Mine goes up to about 20 psi. Recall, however, the electric gauge is off when you crank. That's if you wired it to the stereo (accessory). Mine stays zero until I stop cranking and it shoots up to around 20 psi and slowly goes back down to 0.Yeah, take the plug out to eliminate compression thus higher RPM.

If you hvae someone crank the motor as you look into the oil cap at the cam lobe by the oil delivery tube you can actually see the oil flowing from the tue during crank.
