i did a search and found some info on this topic but i need clarification on something. the size on the ka engine where the warning light is 1/8" BSPT. Finding a 1/8" BSPT to 1/8" NPT fitting is next to impossible where i live. Instead of ordering a fitting i would like to retap the BSPT size to NPT size, using a 1/8"NPT tap. I understand BSPT is 28 threads per inch and the NPT is 27.

Has anybody done this to their ka motor? any leaks or possible problems? does this rumor work?

also, by removing the low pressure sensor from the block, will that throw a code or turn the oil light on? thanks for any helpful input.

That's a great deal. Last time I saw someone post a link to an adapter, it was CNC'd from billet aluminum and cost $50! I'll probably order one...can't find them anywhere around here either.

14 bucks american plus duty/taxes and shipping from texas? remember i live in canada. by the time i get it i'm looking at a 50 dollar part. i want to change the bspt size to npt because that is more universal than metric stuff. thanks for the link, but i need to know if anyone has done this before i start ordering from around the country.i found a plce in ontario that sells adapters but i got a full tap and die set right here so if this will work why not right?

I put my oil pressure gauge in with npt fittings. I borrowed my grandpas tap and die set and ran it over the piece of pipe first and then tapped the hole out . They go together pretty easily but go slow and take your time because you dont want to mess up. I just did it because i didnt know they made fittings and the guy at the machine shop said it would work but as far as someone doing it and it working i did and it doenst leak. Just be carefull. My dad actually picked the pipe and tee fitting up at lowes hardware for me. Good luck !

so you have tapped out the block with a 1/8" npt tap? the fitting i have to put in the block is the one that came with the gauge kit.(npt) so i wouldnt have to use the die on it,but this works right?

I just ordered one. I hate it when companies don't tell you up front how much shipping will cost. Guess I'll find out when it shows up. I once ordered a threaded cap that cost $2 and they charged me $8 for shipping.

I had a braided line made for my oil pressure sender and i just put a 1/8 npt adapter on. I just put a few rolls of teflon around and threaded it in nice and snug. It has not given me any problems and does not leak. The thread pitch is so close you are better off just threading it in than tapping the hole with the chance of messing it up and getting shaving in the block. Plus how do you retap a hole for a new fitting that is practically the same diameter.

By forcing the fitting in you're basically tapping the hole, except that the fitting isn't meant to be a tap. This puts more stess on the threads and they are more likely to shear off. They are about the same diameter, the tap cuts new threads into the old threads. They are so close (27 vs 28 TPI) that the threads don't have much cut out of them. Probably 5-6 full threads in the block.
