i just finished reinstalling my engine and i went to start it. i noticed a increase in noise from the valve cover but didnt pay much attn at first but it kept going. i went to check my gauge but i broke the tube and turned off the car. i fixed the tube and turned the car back on and saw there wasnt any oil pressure but i also noticed the gauge had a bunch of oil in the face. i dont think it would cause it to stop working but the tube was also not filling up with oil. so i checked the oil filter and it was getting oil. next i took off the oil fill cap and looked inside. it seems a bit dry but i did see some tiny splashes of oil. i dont know how much is a normal amount to be going around in there so.... what do you think can be the problem?...or is there a problem? one thing i did do that was differant was changed to 10w-30 syn oil from 20w-50 oil.

Wait, so your mechanical oil pressure gauge in your car has oil in the face? Sounds like you hooked the gauge up wrong, but your post isn't super clear, and I've been drinking, so....what did you do before re-installing the engine? Why did you pull it out?

It could be the timing chain rubbing the chain guide(s) and/or worn tensioner. Also check that the timing is set right. You should be able to see oil squirting on top thru the oil fill cap. What tube are you talking about? Oil gauge in engine bay??

yea the mechanical oil pressure gauge but that could have been caused when i broke the tube. i pulled the engine out to install a new clutch, motor mounts, among quite a few other things. but main reason the engine was out was for the clutch...everything else was done once the engine was back inside.

ill check the timing but how can i tell if the chain is rubbing? that would cause the noise or the low oil pressure? when i looked thru the cap i saw a very little bit of oil. but i never opened it while the car was running before so it could be normal....i just dont know how much oil would be inside there at idle...i just figuered it would be more than i saw.

Check this vid I found on youtube. Does it do the same on yours?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_wvlB2jt2c8

What a spun bearing sounds like.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...lated

Have you checked your oil strainer (oil pickup tube) chances are it's clogged and not allowing oil to flow properly. It's best youreplace it.

edit: How's the oil pan? Is it good condition and not dented/beat up?

i really dont wanna take the oil pan off but i will if i have to. the oil pan is good still i got a greddy pan on it and i was careful with it when i took out the engine. im going to try to make a vid and post it like those guys did...didnt really think about it. i know its not a spun bearing for sure. thats one horrible sound....i wouldnt even start up the car a second time if i had to hear that....my friend is stopping by tomorrow and ill have him take a look as a second opinion and see if he thinks its normal flow. if not the oil pan is comming off next week...sux not having time to do things all at once

pull off oil filler cap you should see a solid stream of oil squirting out from the supply tube for the cam lubes.i get that noisey head noise too on initial start up but goes away in 1 or 2 seconds afer building oil pressure.

thanks for the vid...that helps. i think ill dump the mobil 1 and go back to my other oil again. last time i used mobil 1 i had lower pressure but it was still ok.... oh well, i also ordered new gauges. so i guess while i wait for that stuff to come in ill rip my interior apart for my other prob....that i kinda caused awhile back. but thats another story. thanks again.

so i finished installing the new guages and i have oil pressure. dont know what was wrong before but must have been a bad gauge. now that it working i still have the valve train noise. is there a part of the oil system that can get clogged or something between the oil filter and the oil squirters?maybe that is the cause of my noise....cuz it still seems like not enought oil is getting the the cams imo and by watching that vid it surely doesnt get enough if thats the amount that should be comming out.
