Just got my RB20 running and everything sounds good. The engine is so quiet the injector ticking seems loud. When I started it up oil pressure was at about 50psi @2k rpms on a s14 tach that has'nt been messed with. After about 10 minutes of running and me turning the idle down to 1100rpms the oil pressure dropped to about 12-15psi, but would raise with increase in rpms. What should the oil pressure be at idle?Does that sound low and if so is Mobile 1 5-W30 too thin.

Thanks

Yes, 5W30 is too thin, go 15W50 or 20W50. 12-15psi at idle is OK, but make sure you have at least 40-50psi when driving around. If not, your pump is probably going out. My RB26 had 7-10 psi pressure at idle, and 25 psi when I punch it. Changed the pump with new Nissan ( not Nismo) one, shimmed it, ported it, and now oil pressure is 35 at idle and 100+psi when you rev it. Engine is still perfect, even after running on low pressure for over 10K miles

Changed the oil to Mobile 1 15w50 and the oil pressure at start up went to about 65psi and up around 75-80psi with just a little tap on the throttle. Now, am I going to have to switch this out around December when it starts getting really cold and put something thinner in?

Here's the short answer:

Engines should have a pressure of 10 PSI for every 1,000 RPM of operation, not more, not less.

Here's the LONG answer, GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD reading!!!!
