Do you have to drain the oil to replace this oil pressure sender switch?

All the after market oil pressure switches have a small threaded tube that goes into the block and this looks different than what is in my I30 which has a much larger threaded hole in the engine to receive the pressure switch.

What gives, is the dealer the only one for the correct part?

BTW nissan oil pressure part is 1/2 cost compared to supposedly the same part, are they different?

Thanks for info.

The part is above the oil pan so there should be no need to drain the oil. But have an oil pan underneath just in case oil drips out.

My experience with Nissan and Infiniti dealerships, it's true in most cases that Infiniti charges more. But there are some Infiniti dealers that sell parts at discounted price.

I suggest you buy OEM. I normally buy my parts from IoS (Infiniti of Scottsdale a.k.a. infinitipartsusa.com) but for some reason, I can't find the oil sender unit from their site. You caa also try CourtesyNissan. Below is what I found from an Infiniti dealer

Thanks

I found it at infinitipartsusa (used them in the past) searching with 'oil pressure switch' - $67.20. Was hoping for less. Infiniti dealer in Orlando wants about $54. What on earth is different at Nissan dealer for 98 Maxima for $24, assuming same part? Will have to go to Nissan and see if the part matches what I have, if not off to Infiniti dealer ug!.

Follow up after careful inspection of what is really in the car. Determined that Nissan and infiniti are selling the same switch as the local parts stores but just a different design on the socket size to R&R, OEM requires 1-1/16" deep socket and after market requires a 7/8" deep socket (O2 socket works perfect).

Decided to buy unit at Auto Zone (with a Lifetime warranty) for $10.99. Probably Nissan and infiniti had the part made in a similiar non US factory as the after market jobber but the dealers make a bigger profit?
