Is the sign of a failed oil pressure gauge an "always on" or "always off" warning light, or could either indicate the failure?

Hitman, you mentioned a set of gauges. What brand are you looking at? Are you using a mechanical or electrical OP gauge?

When you unplug the gauge it doesnt turn on at all..... When you turn the key on it should be on, and then when you start it, it should turn off....

Mine I think is messed up, as it blinks for a second after startup but obviously doesnt have low oil pressure...

Assuming its plugged in- if the sender fails will the warning light be on or off?

According to Q45tech, they leak but never fail to operate correctly... Ive seen many posts about him saying that......

Its off. I recently did the plugs and cleaned the TB and EGR. I might have disturbed the harness. I have not been able to track how this connection goes. Does it join up with the harness that goes to the plugs on the drivers side, then make its way to the engine computer?

Theres a main harness that goes by the suspension member, and it goes into that. Its all gooey up there from my leaky sender that Ive been recalcatrent to replace. I dont know where it would connect up top, but you might check the connection. Its located on the driver side, under the car, and if you shine a light up by the precat youll see it, sticking out from the side of the block, just under the head.

I dont' know for certain, but that makes sense...I believe there's only one main harness bundle coming through the firewall. Definitely the majority of harness is routed on that side. As I recall the sensor is grounded to the engine, so the sensor harness is only 1 wire. I think if you were to tug on it you might disconnect it. Probably best to get to it from underneath. Good way to cut up the back of your hand on the exhaust manifold.

Robert, theres about 3 places where it crosses the firewall, but a majority goes on the passenger side down to the ECU. There is another location behind the drivers side quarter panel. Ive found this out because I am looking for a place to put my power wire for my sub...

Don't trust the oem light as 3 psi activation is way below the oem minimum idling spec of 14 psi. Pretty much designed to tell you if the oil pimp freezes or the filter blows off or a rod goes thru the block.Haven't seen but 2 Q where the oil light came on other than just after an oil change for a second ...........plus a few with rock damaged oil pans and no oil and one where the oil only got change annually.

Anyone recommend a good gauge, and where did you mount it? My replacement radio has a clock, so I could take the analog spot.

By the way, I saw the oil pimp, hitchhiking. He looked cold, but not freezing. I didn't pick him up.

I finally got around to replacing the sender today and the idiot light has been restored. For some reason Nissan changed the size of the sender fron 22mm to something bigger than I own, or Sears sells. So I got a deep 1 1/16 " socket and used it to install the new sender. This is now the undisputed king of my socket drawer.

I figure this socket will come in handy if I'm charged by a rhino. Otherwise I will never use it again.

My Q, it came on for low oil pressure when the crank bolt wasnt tight enough. So, it did its job quite well in that case. In any event, it would be ideal to have digital oil pressure and coolant temperature gauges.

I wonder how hard something like that would be to install...
