I just installed an autogauge mechanical oil pressure gauge. When hot(idle) it reads 18psi and when i rev it high it goes to 60psi. Im using 5w50 castrol synthetic. I never used a gauge before and I was expectging higher psi's, does this sound normal?

I believe you are supposed to have 10 psi per 1,000 rpm.

Here is how to check oil pressure per the FSM.... After car is warmed up to operating temperature, rev the engine to 3000rpms and hold, the gauge should read between 60-70psi. It's ok if it's +/- 5-7psi beyond that. Like after my car is warmed up and I have been driving for about 30min or so I will rev the engine up to 3000rpms and the gauge will read like 54-58psi. That is normal since the engine has 163,000+ miles on it. Of course when you first start the car the oil pressure will be crazy high so don't let that concern you either. Bottom line at idle and operating temp the pressure should be around 16-18psi. Any lower than that then you can worry.
