Ok so I was driving my car ready to take it to the smog and i smell something burning and then smoke came out the hood and from under the car... it was the oil that was touching hot parts... I didn't run my car anymore because I lost all my oil and didn't want to blow something in my engine.
I located the problem a line that went to the oil pressure had two cracks. I'm going to replace the line and i was wondering if the fittings need Teflon? what kind of material should i use for the pressure gauge ? Image

before i went to electric sending units i used tiny copper tubing and brass compression fittings on the ends. no teflon needed, but if you think you can get everything oil free some rtv on the last 2/3 of the threads doesnt hurt.

i used autometer 100psi sweep gauge sending units. but it all depends on the gauges you have, there are some carb sending units that only read up up 25psi... useless for us.

mine is a Equuis gauge , one more question does the oil have to be drained every time?

If you're crafty, you can change the oil sending unit with minimal loss of oil. Unscrew>Plug Finger Over Hole>Put new unit up against hole, begin turning. It's not too bad.

LOL, I'm not sure how else you would do it, except if you do it during an oil change. IMO its better to do it this way and let a little oil run out through the hole. I had some metal shavings and RTV collected in that area of the oil tree that I think was part of what was giving me issues with readings after my build.
