I have a 97 pathfinder that has been sitting for about a year now. I just put it back on the road for my daughter who's home from college and now I have a problem with the oil pressure. At idle it's ok, when I drive a very short distance the oil light comes on. If you stop, shut the engine off then restart it it's ok until you attempt to drive again?? Yes I did change the oil and filter still now help? I can only guess anyone with any ideas of why this is happening and how to fix it??? HELP!!

Thats pretty strange. Im wondering if maybe the regulator got somehow stuck? Have you actually measured the pressure with a gauge?

I have the same thing going on with my 97'. I to thought it might be a stuck preassure regulator. Is there some reasonable way to check this? Pulling the oil pump is a major chore. I have not put a preassure gauge on it yet, but i know the preassure is low from the sound the valvses started to make. I shut it right down and towed it home., Any help would be greatJohn a

yeah i had the same thing go on with mine. except the oil pump was failing, then it blew up a couple months later. it could be the oil pressure switch light that failed, or actually low pressure. measure it with a gauge.
