Oil Pressure Issue

S13 SR20DET Engine w. 38k on it.

I'm having a start-up low oil pressure problem. I can start the engine and it will illuminate the oil pressure light for a solid 10 seconds sometimes. The engine is obviously running on low pressure (audible) but subsides withen 10 seconds.

What I think it is: I think perhaps the oil filter's either lack of, or damaged drain back valve is causing the oil to drain back into the block rather than pressurizing, causing low pressure until the filter is completely filled.

I recall the oil pick-up being fine, and the motor had very little wear when I removed the valve cover the first time.

Any ideas? I'd rather not have to go tearing the engine apart to replace the oil pump or relief valve if I don't have to.

hehe, i was just gona say try a new oil filter, put in an oem or a high quality and see if it helps
