My 1984 720 is showing different oil pressure levels on my meter. At idle I am getting normal readings but a higher speed the pressure goes down to almost nothing. When I decelerate the pressure climbs back up but decreases when I get up to speed. It this an oil pressure malfunction? I had the motor rebuilt about fourteen months ago.

is there a spike in engine temp when pressure decreases? and is there a change in how the 720 performs when it's under low pressure?

No spike in heat gauge. Runs great no issues. I have been like this for like 6 months. I would have thought it would have blown up already if it was major issue like a bad pump.

hmmmmm that's an odd one to be sure. if there's no drop in performance and no spike in heat I would think there's trouble with the gauge assembly/sensor, but i'm not really sure. have you taken it anywhere to get it looked at?

Yes and they are telling me the same thing. I guess I'll try a new sending unit..what do you think?

since the gauge is working that makes sense - if you can check it yourself with an electrical tester that would be ideal.

I've been out for a while. Just wanted to say thanks. I am ordering a new sending unit and see what happens.
