Where is tyhe best location to put the sensor for an oil pressure gauge. I searched some of the priors, but couldnt find anything that helped. I have an 89 ka24e. Does the ecu use and preexisting pressure data and where is it located. If the ecu does use this the I cannot so where else can I fit it. I am afraid to tap the engine, that sounds like suicide. Any help is appreciated.

Where is the stock one located at. Does the cu need this data for any reason. Is it ok to replace. There is no stock gauge in the car

Every modern car Ive been in has some form of oil pressure gauge, the 240 is no exception. The stock sender should be right near the oilf filter.

There is a rudimentary sender by the oil filter, but it only comes on if it detects that the pressure drops below 3 PSI (IIRC), at which point your engine is in a decent amount of trouble anyway. And also, I don't believe the stock sender would support any kind of oil gauge, as it only changes resistance upon that 1 drop in pressure . . . I think that's how it works, it's been a while since I've messed with it. HTH . . .

the aftermarket sender replaces the oem sensor

The aftermarket sensor replaces the stock sensor, it is 1/8 NPT-27 threaded iirc. The stock sensor is worth precisely...nothing. That piece of **** doesn't come on until somewhere in the neighborhood of 5psi, if it does that...your screwed. It's a ***** to get out though, my recommendation is to take off the oil filter and come in from the top with a pair of locking pliers in order to get the old one out. The new one should be much easier to get in :) Oh, and dont use teflon tape on your new one either. Chances are it's a "standard" ground and uses the threads and the oil filter extension to ground itself, teflon tape will screw that up. Oh, and the ECU does not use any signal from the oil pressure gauge, its just an o-**** o' meter.

I know about the aftermarket sensor replacing the OEM one, just forgot to note it, heh. And Nathan is 100% right on everything he said . . . specifically with regard to the ground, missed that the 1st time around.

Ya know why I'm right? because I JUST tried to replace mine, then decided to get an electrical instead of mechanical oil pressure gauge (yeah, didn't want the oil in the cabin) and had to figure all that crap out :)

Hehe, I did the same thing this past summer . . . getting ready to get rid of the gauge and put the original back in, actually. Very ugly and relatively useless mounting location right now . . . :-)

instead of teflon use some thread lock. red is good for the oil sensor. a little dab will do ya

isnt the stock oil BSPT, not NPT?!? In that case, you'd want an adapter. Plus I couldnt get the autometer electric sender to fit, so i had to rig up some stuff.

NPT = National Pipe Thread, not International Pipe Thread

Right now, i've got:1 - American Car 'Oh SH**' switch2 - Autometer electrical sender3 - turbo oil feed

It involves a lot of bits including adapters, T's, more adapters, brake line, more adapters, braided line.. its pretty scary lookin

yeah I think it is BSPT but I made the autometer fit no problem, autometer sells the adapter if your lookin for one.

thanks slakker and no burnin, dont mind at all.

I've heard that putting an NPT in a BSPT hole can cause looseness later. Could just be a myth though. Fact is they are NOT the same thread but they may be so close that it doesnt really matter
