OK, I think this is probably no big deal, but I figure better safe than sorry.

I have a rebuilt engine that I'm still breaking in. It's at about 700 miles. It has very good oil pressure - 70 PSI @ 3,300 RPM. I ran it through the gears a bit, revving it a lot, yesterday.

On my way home, the oil pressure dropped a little from 70 down to 62 at 3,300 RPM. This is still normal according to the FSM, but lower than usual. A couple of minutes later it was back to normal. Idle PSI was good - 25-30 PSI.

Any idea what happened? I'm using cheap non-synthetic oil, the coolant lines to the turbo are blocked off, and I don't use an oil cooler. The temperature was normal and the engine sounds fine.

My theory is that the oil heated up, thinning it out and then cooled off, but I'd like to hear what other people think.

Thanks man. I have been enjoying it. I fact, I think I'll go flog it some more tonight...

I hope I'm not cursing it, but I think the curse has finally be beaten down. It bucked a little in the beginning, but it seems to be fine. :chuckle:

I wouldn't worry about that oil pressure.

This is what they all do, it gives them character and makes you love them when they do run.

Got your message, you still don't have a problem. Don't over-think this motor, especially the bottom end. You wanted it done right, you paid proper coin, now go beat the brakes off that puppy and stop worrying so much :). If it makes you feel any better, my 500+whp CA powered S13 doesn't have an oil cooler either. I don't care and I've run better than 30 psi of boost from my GT35R and the engine has the healthiest oil pressure than any of my previous CAs. Enjoy the drive, my friend!

Good to know. At 800 miles it seems that the curse is lifted.

Thanks for understanding.
