About 3 weeks ago, I noticed that my oil pressure started fluctuating a lot. Even if I am driving at 60km/h, it will be reading 2kg/cm2 (~30psi) and then it will go down to 0 kg/cm2 then back up to 1 kg/cm2. I had the oil sending unit replaced about 2 months ago. Everything was fine. The first day that it did this, all the lights came on on the dash and the dash made a buzzing sound when I started braking. Even right now if I drive for a while, the battery light comes on after a while, and the lights dim. I believe this is caused by the alternator. What could be causing the fluctuating oil pressure readings?

Do you always have the voltage issue with the oil pressure problem? If so, I'd say that there's a chance that the low voltage is messing with your gauge... electronics do all kinds of crazy things with low voltage.

If the original was clogged and not reading correctly, it's common for the new one to stop up as well. You can use a VERY tiny drill bit and enlarge the sending unit hole a tiny TINY bit, and try not to get any shavings in the unit itself. It'll still read accurately as long as you don't drill into the sensing portion.

Alternatively, the gauge could be going bad, but the sending unit is far more common of a failed part.

As long as your other gauges are still working correctly, the alternator isn't causing the issue with the gauge.

But yes, the dimming lights sound like a battery issue.
