I see these vehicles use a copper crush washer when changing oil. I've never had to do that before as the Fords I'm familiar with use a drain plug with a rubber gasket molded I to the head.

Is there any such aftermarket plug for these engines that anyone uses?

I bought a fumoto drain plug valve thats great. Once its on you dont have to take it out. Just use the ball vavle to drain your oil. using a flexible tube helps a great deal

I use a valve myself. Don't ever remove it, just open the valve with a hose attached and bada boom bada bing!

Interesting. I've never heard of the valves before.

I already purchased the ten pack of copper washers on eBay this morning along with Penzoil Platinum and a Fram oil filter. Was just curious what other offerings were available.

I'd use any other filter than a fram. You mentioned in another thread you don't trust the dealer to do your own oil changes, so you're using one of the worst filters you can buy and stretching your OCI to 7,500mi (twice the recommended interval) so you can do it yourself, albeit less frequently since "it's a pain". Sounds like you're taking a step in the wrong direction.

From my understanding only the Orange Frams are the crappy ones. I ordered a Fram Ultra which claims it is good for longer OCIs and good reviews on BITOG. I'll give it a shot.

7500 miles is actually right on the recommended interval depending on the maintenance schedule you follow in your owners manual. That also does not say whether synthetic or dino oil is used either. Using synthetic, it is capable of going longer. I'll do a UAO and report the results when it comes around to it. I'm sure it'll have plenty of life left.

Infiniti considers city driving severe duty. Not saying you can't go 7,500mi on an OCI, but I'd definitely use a better quality filter. I don't know what your dealer charges for an oil change, but we charge $39.95 for one. Obviously if something is screwed up during that process, the dealer is then liable for the repair. As important as quality oil and filter are, I guess I just don't understand the logic of trying to push the limits. I apologize if I came across as jerk in my previous post, it wasn't my intention.

I've also heard that *some* of the FRAM's are actually quite good (better than the Mobil 1 I use or Napa Gold that I use).

Fram Ultras are on par with NAPA Gold (Wix) and Mobil 1 filters. Only one documented failure relating to mishandling during shipping on BITOG. Other users have reported hitting 10k+ easy on the filters.

I'm aware of Infiniti's recommended service I tervals but without a warranty making me meet these requirements, I will opt to set, modify, and monitor a maintenance schedule that I see fit.

A 7,500 mile OCI with a quality Group III oil and filter will be just fine in this vehicle just like any vehicle. Depending on the UOA at the end of this interval, I may change the duration up or down.

I'm with BlackCat. I can see the motivation for going long as possible between changes if you do your own changes and don't have a lift in your garage. However, an oil / filter change is the LEAST expensive of the maintenance required for our cars and oil is the life blood of the engine. If I bring my own oil (Mobil 5w30) to the dealer, they supply a new OEM filter, new washer, and do an inspection for about $45. In South Florida, we're in summer temps all year long. Add to that the time spent stopped (10-15 min) at the draw bridges in 90 degree heat with the air con running, and extending the time between oil changes just seems wrong.

I don't k ow how a post asking about alternate oil plugs turned into such a debate about OCIs, filters, and so on.

FWIW, I opted to buy a ten pack of the copper washers and uses one of them for my oil change and will continue to do so on my back without a lift as often as I see fit using only filters and oil that are up to the task based on first hand knowledge or many hours of researching and asking informed people.
