Hey guys,

I bought my 2008 Versa new. I've gotten all my services done at a Nissan dealership. In May my oil plug fell out. Warranty will not cover a new engine and my dealership is taking no responsibility. I'm pretty much screwed into paying for a new motor when it wasn't my fault. I'm looking to you guys for some info and opinions. Thanks.

Well, I'll be the first to say, that sucks. I hope you can work something out.

Read the manual and go through the suggested steps to resolution. This would probably involve talking to the manager or GM or the dealership and then on to the regional NIssan rep. Check the laws in your province regarding resolution of such a situation.

Just curious, how did this happen? Did you notice a trail of oil behind you and the engine stop running? If the plug falls out (it's threaded) all the oil will spill. If it seeped out over time and then the plug fell out, you would have noticed oil spots everywhere you drove. Any pictures?

Your guess is as good as mine. As I said my last service was in December. If there was a slow leak I didn't notice it. I live in an apartment and park in a differnt spot all the time. Checked my levels at the end of April and all was fine. When my plug fell out my light came on and I pulled over mabye 100 m down the road. My engine is toast. Lost the plug so won't really know if it was defected or not. Thanks for the input.

first off sorry to hear about this and did the plug just unscrew or does it look like it was hit with an object? What was the dealers explanation?I just read the other thread and you have a decent amount of time from when the oil change was first done to when the plug came out...it could have been leaking for quite sometime...you could also ask an attorney...

Yes there was some time that had passed in between oil changes but I was not past due in months or Km. Also when I got my car checked out for damage there seemed to be no damage to my under carriage which made it look like my oil plug had been hit. I believe my last service they didn't tighten my oil plug enough and it probably was slowly leaking but not that i saw. I did check my levels at the end of April too and they seemed to be fine. My dealership is taking no responsibilty, they stand behind there service. I have been talking to a lawyer among other things. Thanks for your input, it is appreciated.

Combined the two threads, no need to make 2 of them.

Definately would be dealing with the dealership and then corp if need be. If no one else touched the car then the dealership should be responsible.

The same thing happened to my car, a 2009 Versa, 2 months after an oil change at the dealer's. The oil drained out in seconds as it was on the highway, and the motor seized. It was towed to a different dealer in another town where they speculated that the plug had only been hand tightened after the last oil change. I contacted the dealer that did that change, but they refused to take any responsibility due to the length of time. Any advice?
