On the 2 bolt "diamond" shaped flange on the oil pick-up to block connection, what is the correct way to seal it?

Does it just use a single O-ring like those found on the oil filter housing to block connection? Is any additional sealant necessary/recommended?

If anyone has a part number I'd be thankful as well! Especially if I can buy it through Nissan instead of placing a separate order through Infiniti for an O-ring.

I probably just answered my own question. Assuming the gasket from a VG is the same. Except the VG and VQs have slightly different part numbers...and it shows 2 part numbers for early vs. late VGs.

I'll order one and find out unless someone knows otherwise.

It's a metal gasket with a compressible ridge.

On my J-spec Q45 VH45 it was a o-ring only. I'm replacing mine with goo as I'm lazy.

Oh... ok. That's interesting. It's a gasket on mine. CBF taking a pic! Also, I wouldn't risk replacing it with just goo...

Interesting! I actually ran the engine for a while with just ultra-gray sealant on it and had no issues with oil pressure but I'm trying to do things right this time around. Guess I better call Infiniti and have them look it up for me.

On my 90-93's they both looked to have some sort of gasket, not a metal gasket though. I need to figure this out as well before i go and put it all back together. I'll bet some sort of nitrile o-ring would work?

I've got four VH's at my disposal now, two of which are the siamese intake and two are the oval intake's. So i could probably check em out and see if there are any differences between them sometime this week.

I could use a couple spare VHs right now...It would help to have an assembled one to remember how everything goes back together. I'm surprised I ever got this thing put together considering I'd never built an engine before and it showed up in about 20 boxes of parts.

I think I'll call Infiniti of Scottsdale tomorrow and see what it says for parts. I've been looking at VGs and some use O-rings and some use gaskets.

Ditto. If replacing the o-ring make sure the one you select is suitable for oil at temperature. Have heard second hand horror stories of non-oem o-rings in oil pickups breaking down and letting air into oil system with unpleasant results

^ Yeah just make sure it's a Viton o-ring, it's not necessary to be OEM. Viton is the grade used for high temp/corrosive environments, and a new o-ring to suit should be practically free from your nearest o-ring supplier.

I just got two such o-rings for my oil filter housing, free around the corner at Seal Imports.
