Oil pickup - Please Help

I am stuck in with putting my car back together until I figure out where the o ring goes on the oil pickup. 89 240sx. I know a lot of you guys have taken it off, does the ring go in the groove on the pickup? I am not sure if it goes in the grove or outside or inside the grove. Please help! I am ready to put everytrhing back on the car after a timing chain job, but am afraid to put the ring in the wrong spot. Thanks.
