How much should there be? I got a donor JDM twin turbo motor and have it apart for a complete rebuild, as it had low/zero oil pressure. It looks like the car was bottomed on the oil pan and the pickup tube was dented and mashed up. I've knocked the pan back into shape, but want to do a dry fit while I'm re-assembling to make sure the clearance is right. Should it have 1/4" between pan and pickup? 1 inch between pan/pickup?

And to answer the mandatory follow up emails: The cams have some heat marks showing, but smoothed out with an embry cloth. The crank looks to have spun the #6 rod bearing and was polished out back to spec. #6 piston/rod is being replaced with a good, stock replacement.

I would just get a used, good pickup tube and make sure you replace the oil pump as well.

Too close and the can cavitate. Too high it can draw air.

5/16"~3/8" from the pan to the pick-up.
