why do you have to take off a front wheel? Just get under the motor, possibly lift the motor after loosening the motor mount nuts. Which motor is this for? SOHC?

it'll be really tough and take a while. reason? the little lip thing that curves down on the edge of the oil pan that keeps you from using a box wrench like you'd normally be able to. Only motor commonly found engine in a 240 that I've been able to get access to without lifting the engine is the SR with nismo mounts since they raise the motor an inch which gives more clearance. Me thinks you'll have to lift the motor to get enough clearance to remove and also to clean up the mating surfaces and apply RTV to seal it up.

Jack it up near the transmission. make sure you undo the engine mounts and support everything properly. Safety is important when you are under the car.

keep your wheels on, you may have to unbolt the front swaybar though.

Yes, support everything with jacks or jack stands.

I'm doing the same thing soon, couple questions:

1) An engine crane would be counter productive right since I think they old the engine from the very bottom (I could be wrong, never used a crane before.

2) What do you mean by removing engine mounts? Is that safe/necessary? Would I be able to pop in new mounts at the same time safely - that will save a lot of time :)?

Ok, so here's how the install seems:

-Jack up car-put on jack stands (4)-drain oil-Jack up engine through transmission (anyone got a pic of where to jack?)

-Start removing oil panor-Start loosening/removing mounts then remove oil pan

Seems simple enough? except that whole part where an engine may start come crashing down on me, haha.

the hoist is just a large arm with a hook at the end. You can chain up the motor from the intake and exhaust manifolds. just loosen the nuts on the motor mounts, ditto with the crossmember for the transmission and lift about an inch to an inch and a half. that should give you the clearance you need. Reason I say keep the nuts on the motor mounts is...well it's a pita to get the studs to line back up to the motor crossmember.
