Does anybody know how far you have to lift the engine in a '90 model 240 to get the oil pan out. I'm replacing my timing chain and was given bogus info telling me to drop the pan. So now I really need to get the pan out to clean it up before I reseal it. I havent tried anything to pull the pan out yet because I wanted to ask details before I tried.

Drop the sway bar, oil pickup, and jack the engine a few inches and it'll slide right out. The main issues are the pickup and the sway bar.....you only really need enough height to get at the pickup bolts. Search if this doesn't help, this has been discussed many times before..i'm just bored :)

i didnt take the oil pan out when i did my timing chain on my 90' didnt really have to just loosen all of the bolts and remove the ones holding the front cover and the some of ones afthe the cover so that u can with ur hands pull the oil pan down some, with the oil drained i just got alot of brake clean and sprayed down there the best that i could, the car was running perfect but i sold the car and after 2-3months the fans stopped working so the person kept overheating and didnt do nothing about it just kept driving it so its blown and i got it back for free because they knew they blew it up and had no way of gettin rid of it except givin it to me hoped that helped u some

you dont need to remove the oil pickup if you do it right. drop the sway bar and start lifting up the engine until you can pull the pan out. i forget what else i had to loosen on mine. do a search, there is a lot of info on this.

Well, first things first, I got the pan out. I did it what I would consider the easy way and I lifted the motor and dropped the swaybar and the front crossmember( it made more room for reinstallation so that I didnt hit the pan and smudge the sealer). I only pulled the pan because I was told that the pickup was bolted to it( I believed it because the engine in a pulsar nx is this way). After having dropped the pan I wanted to get it all the way out for 2 reasons. first it is siliconed in and I am a perfectionist so I wanted to clean the surface good before reinstalling it. Second was I dumped a lot of cooland and gasket material in it so I wanted to clean it out thoroughly. Now as for this not being a Turbo related question I was directed to this forum because anyone who has ever installed their own turbo would be familiar with what is needed to drop the oil pan. I actually originally asked this in the KA forum but was told I would get a speedier answer here. thanks for the help,

Phil
