K well what I thought was a main seal ended up being my oil pan leaking on the right side inside the transmission. What could cause this? Its not leaking anywhere else on the oil pan. Here is a picture

some one might have pulled the oil pan before and didnt put enough RTV on it before?

Just pull the upper oil pan and re-RTV it

well the FSM basically says I have to pull the motor to take off the oil pan. Is that true?

You might as well since you got the transmission pulled already

What about just cleanin up that spot really good and applying some of the strong ATV on the spot where its leaking. Because to me pulling the motor to just put some RTV on it sounds kind like a waste. But if yall dont think that will work Ill go ahead and pull the motor.

Well your other option besides pulling the motor is to drop the whole steering assembly and k-member, I did it last year to fix an oil leak. It wasn't to bad but it does take some time. And when you do goto fix it you will want to pull the pan and completely clean both surfaces before you reapply RTV to it or you will never get the seal you need.

seriously you could pull the whole trans/engine in under 2 hours maybe 3 if your slow....just do it right the first time...putting rtv around the leak is the half assed way to do it, just pull it replace the rear seal and rtv the upper oil pan the way the fsm explains, re-install and call it a day

Just went through a big ordeal with my Rear main seal and the same oil pan prob...... Not have at all put car on jack stands unless you have a lift....unbolt motor mount bolts then the 4 subframe bolts and slide the pan out......screw going threw that hassle of pulling the motor it really isnt that hard at all
