I have a 2004 Murano that is leaking oil apparently due to an oil pan leak. How much should a repair cost? Is there anything else to watch for with an oil pan leak?

This is common, as the oil pan is actually a two-piece design. Expect the cost to be in the high hundreds, or low thousands.

Another common leak is the o-ring between the oil cooler and block, and is only around $100-$200 to fix, and was more common on the earlier years.

Wow, I'm surprised to hear your cost estimate, in my experience and oil pan leak is a really easy fix, and only requires a cheap oil pan gasket to be replaced, maybe 3 hours of shop time and maybe a 50 dollar gasket. But if you say it's going to be close to a thousand bucks then Nissan must have a real stupid oil pan design - it's so annoying to see examples of simple things made complicated and most costly for no apparent reason.

I have a 2005 Murano that developed the same problem. There is no gasket -- you have to use hi-temp gasket silicone. I did mine myself. Very easy to do.

Should not be more than a 1 hour labor chg at most. Hardest part is cleaning the old gasket material off. Also, trick to ease the front part of the pan into position first without touching your bead of silicone.

Optimal to let sit for at least 12 hours to fully cure, but really can be used in a shorter period of time if necessary.

That sounds a little more like what I'd expect, I'm glad I'm not totally out to lunch on new vehcile service! So, since realistically this should be about a 200 dollar job max, I'd say Nissan would charge you 400 bucks, still a lot better than a grand, my man!!

I noticed last night that our 05 Murano has an oil pan leak. So I went out and bought the Felpro gaskets from Advance. Do you peeps think silicon alone would be better than these gaskets? I also checked the warranty coverage in the owners manual and it says that engine gaskets and seals are covered. We had bought the extended warranty 60/100,000. Has anybody gotten Nissan to cover this under warranty? We are at 75k miles and have 6 months time left on warranty.

TIA

I had the same leak on my 05 murano and it was the o ring not the gasket. I would check with nissan to see if they cover it. The o ring is about 15.00 and my father in law did it. It took about an hour.

this is a common problem in the vq35, as the oil pan rusts on the lip by the mounting holes, and it starts to leak. its not the gasket - its the actual oil pan.
i had to change the oil pan on my 2002 maxima that has the same engine.

the oil pans are about $75 on ebay and any mechanic can do it with an oil change probably for another $75.
(there is no gasket - you have to make your own with RTV sealant)
