This is what is left of my chain guide – right side. The small pieces that manage to get by the screen on the pickup tube must raise hell with the oil pump.Oil pan has to be dropped to retrieve the broken pieces.

I'm surprised to see such tiny fragments. Makes me think that you might have had at least one really close call with a large piece coming into contact with a chain or sprocket and getting splintered. Any signs of sharp impacts around the broken surfaces? How did you support the engine to remove the pan?

Support the car with 6 ft 6x6 beams and 10x10 timbers 2 ft. long in a V attitude on each side. Then lowered the motor and transmission onto a dolly. Taking the car that high in a safe manner was challenging.

Working on the Q is relatively easy. Every piece has a purpose and where it belongs is self-evident.Did the heads on my 89 Chevy ¾ a number of years back. It took me half a day just to figure out how to reassemble the bars used to brace the mounting plate for the air conditioner, generator, idler arm and some other stuff. The engineers must have designed that assembly on the fly. However, lots of space to work – could throw an easy chair under the hood and get real comfy with the wrenches. And about that lift - If I were to get one – my wife would lift my butt out the door. She thinks that I should be able to go out into the Garage and make the car work by magic – no money spent!

Transfer to a dolly with smaller wheels roll it under, hook it up and away I go. To be honest, it is a big job.Q45tech is right - this is not for the faint of heart.

Like Red Green says, regarding his efforts at keeping his wife happy - “If ya aren’t good looking then you have to be handy” By the way Red Green is a great Canadian whose fame is derived from his association with Duct tape. yuk yuk
