Well we got the motor out of the clip today and it's nearly ready to bolt into the 240. However, the oil pan is TOTALLY useless; there's a dent, no, a crater in it. I'm afraid it's dented bad enough that it may have damaged the oil pickup.

Suggestions? I got my clip from Venus and they're really good about customer service, so I'm waiting to hear back from them about getting a new pan. Is this a good time to maybe upgrade to a high-volume oil pan, or is that not something that's necessary on the RB20? (I know a lot of SR owners upgrade to a baffled high-volume pan right away because the stock pan doesn't hold much) Very doubtful, but is there maybe anyplace I could get a custom pan that wouldn't interfere with my sway bar? :D

i would say to test fit the motor and take measurements, and try to have a welding/fabrication shop make you one custom.

Hmm, think maybe it would end up being cheaper if I just got an OEM oil pan and, like, a $200 Whiteline sway to clear it? (and give me better handling in the process :))

The oil pan on my engine is dented in pretty far. I took it off to make sure the pickup wasn't broken. Everything looked good in there to me. The pickup isn't like an SR20 pickup. It's a cone shaped metal screen so even if it was toucheing the bottom of the pan it would still be able to take in oil. I tried to dent mine out but there is a baffel under, that sits under crank, that keeps you from getting to the bottom of the pan. If you really want to take the dent out take it to a body shop and see what it would cost to have it pulled. Explain to them that a new one is hard to get and exspensive (that could be a bad thing to say too);) They should be able to pull it woud with what ever tool the use to pull dents.

I say cut the bottom of the pan off and reweld a new bottom to it that will work with your current pickup and clear the sway. There is too tight of a clearance between the pan and the sway for me if there are no mods to one or the other.

Hybrid cut his sway in two sections and welded part of another sway to lengthen it out. He now has ~3" of clearance, but i'm sure it changed the handling of the car toward oversteer, which is cool but still limits the front sway part of the suspension dialing in process. I'm going to talk with him about the pan idea today. Always good to have new ideas to help you start thinking, thanks!
