1) Why?2) you could build one for cheaper than it would be to modify that one.

I seriously doubt that little piece of bent stainless is going to protect your oil pan. If you're going to hit something hard enough to cause major trauma to the oil pan, that thing isn't going to make much difference, at least not in my "not so humble" opinion.

i think it would do sumthing, depending on how much space is between it and the oil pan, i mean youd mess that up b4 ur oil hitting a speed bump er curb er sum****, and rock onthe highway getting kicked up

honestly, won't do a damn thing. its so thin, it will just bend and still end up hitting your oil pan. ONLY time it might possibly help is if it was something sharp that might puncture your pan, it will just puncture this. But even then, it will probably puncture that, then continue on to puncture your oil pan

WHY? my car is low and that's how my KA died..big ol dent, drift my car.

I guess it might not do much to prevent it if the hit is hard enough, oh well I guess you guys have a point, might do some research and make one sometime. Thanks.

Why in the hell would you use an aluminum plate to "protect" something? Ever try to crush an aluminum can? Yeah. That is not there to protect the undercarridge from damage, but rather from dirt (remember the plastic tray that is under the motor stock? To keep it clean in there? That is what that is, except all Bling and s***). If you want to protect your oil pan, get something like the serious skid plate that you would get for a F-150 and modify that.

yeah, im totally putting a skid plate on mine. thing freaking scrapes at every opportunity and i would rather be safe than sorry. i also dont have that thing that was there to protect it originally. i plan to use some 3/8in aluminum plate or something that will take a severe beating.

Do it the easy way, convert to a dry sump! ::cough::

More seriously, check out parts for some of the more popular rally cars (scoobies, evo, etc.) and see if any of them could be modified.

hey dingleberry , guess what the heavy duty skid plates for f150's are made from. factory ones are usually just plastic, most aftermarket ones are aluminum.

guess what all the skid plates on off road buggies and 4 wheelers and such are made of.... aluminum.

aluminum is strong and light. thats why they use it.

first of all, do you have any idea how soft aluminum is compared to other metal?

I am sure you guys see rear lower tie bar on civic/integras and once you take it off, it's bent in shape... this is common knowledge on honda-tech. So no, I don't think it will help at all.

I drive an integra before, lost control and went up on the curb, and the oil pan and 2 wheels on 1 side was holding the car in place... The pan dented but did not leak/crack/break

it's very sturdy and made to withstand abuse

another thing to consider is that our motor oil is running like 100 to 150C, the pan must be pretty strong if it can go from below 0C to over 100C all the time

I understand that Al is strong and light, but not that strong. And all my buddies in high school and before when I was a kid and my family activly participated in off-roading (my mom'd live-in bf had a sick 73 Toyota LC rockcrawler and a 76 'Burban w/ 1ton axles, hand fabricated lift, and tons of other goodies...He also had a 43 Willys Jeep, but that only ran once) so I know a thing or two about building an undercarridge built for serious real-deal rock-crawling. No peice of aluminum is located anywhere under a properly built truck. Steel is stronger than aluminum, and if you guys are low enough to be hitting your oil pan (I just clang my muffler and my front lip) then I would bet you want the best protection you could get. Just my $.02

If you really want to protect it, a 1/4" steel plate covering the engine bay will protect. It'll be heavy and, in some racing classes, very illegal. Before you put one in, and you plan on racing in an organized way at all, check the rules.

Most off road skid plates are plated, or powder coated steel.
