well somhow imagining that a torque wrench would register 8Nm i managed to squash the gasket on the first bolt. the rest i did by hand compressing the gasket slightly. the first one however is still squashed out a good 1/8 inch. i coated it with sealent before i started so im hoping it holds, but i was untightening and retightening bolts. generally an amateur job. how sensitive are these things? the last thing i need is a leak. should i replace it again?

i would just not use the gasket and use RTV instead or remove the gasket and put RTV on both sides to make sure it donesnt leak, then put it back

whats RTV?

i coated both sides with black silicon before i bolted it on.

for $11 and some aggravation id be willing to do it over if the squashing and untightening/re-tightening would cause a problem. i fear it may have ripped the gasket. i dread even the possibilty of a leak.

why do they use cork anyway it seems fragile? is there any advantage over silicon alone?

worry

i dont know why they use cork, i belive oem gasket is RTV

RTV is a silicone, made for automotive use, blue is good for general use, red stuff for high temperature applications like exhaust flange sealing.

you will be good with the blue stuff, if you want you could use a cork one again, but i would definatly go ahead and replace it, it will be bad if you get it all together and it leaks, not good at all

btw: you can get rtv at wal-mart or autozone or napa or werever
