I have a few questions on the oil pan gasket. I know the stock setup is a liquid gasket and that's recommended in the nissan manual, but when I requested a gasket kit from autozone I got a cork gasket as well as the two pieces for the ends. I'm thinking I should just go with liquid gasket, but I wanted to check to see what others had done first.

Also, how far should I apply the liquid gasket? I'm guessing it doesn't go as far as the two rubber pieces, but I could be wrong? Thanks in advance :)

well, i havnt heard of a real gasket for the engine, i would say just go with the liquid one. i just took my ol pan off and it looks like the liquid gasket goes all the way to the little rubber things. hope this helped.

There is no gasket on the sump.

It is a liuid gasket (sealant). There is info on this in the service manual that is floating around the net in PDF format. Head to http://www.nissansilvia.com for heaps of info on the CA and also the silvia in general.

I realize there's no gasket from nissan, but I did receive a cork gasket from autozone. I went ahead and sealed it with liquid gasket anyway, but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask about the other.

I've always just used $5 clear sanitry silicone, never had a problem.

There is a rubber gasket available though.

Oh, make sure that the mounting face is flat before you put it on, depending on how it was taken off (most likely a chisel and a hammer) it may be bent a bit.

I used a really thin putty knife to take it off and it was perfectly flat, besides the beads :)

LOL, I use a chisel and lum;p hammer, I've sussed a very effective technique at flattening it again. :DAlso involves a lump hammer, but also a set of feeler gauges and a window.

Mine came with a cork gasket also. I'm going to put it in this time and see what happens. Last time I just through it out...
