Is it okay to use permatex blue on oil pan in place of gasket. It states it is capable of withstanding 300 degrees. If my engine got that hot, I wouldnt want it anymore any ways

There is no "gasket" anyway, its a liquid gasket from the factory :) You should be fine with the permatex blue, if your oil hits 300 degrees you'll probably have other problems.

Actually the oil pan has a gasket. I took my oilpan off and went down to the store and got the gasket. I am not sure whether Nissan puts the gasket on the motor from the factory but Fel-Pro makes the gasket for a '91 KA24DE at least. I used RTV gasket maker with it. This should keep you leak free. I really did not want to drop my subframe twice. If you look at the oil pan, you would have problems with leakeage around the oil pan bolts, due to the oil pan pressing agains the bottom of the block, and nothing to keep the RTV hanging around.

I've seen the permatex stuff used on an oil pan for the sr...it didn't hold too well. Then again the guy also sheared a bolt. So that could explain why. He used Nissan RTV afterwards and it held.

The Nissan RTV is probably similar to the Permatex red. What makes it red is 1-5% iron oxide particles (rust), which gives the final gasket much better heat transfer. By keeping the heat transfer rate high, the oil will cool faster and there will be less "stretching" of the gasket from thermal distortion between the 2 mating surfaces.

Nah dont wanna spend 20 bucks on a stupid gasket, which could just blow out anyway. the original has a gasket silicone on it too.

WEIRD, there is no oil pan gasket in the KA24DE FSM. Oh well, I wouldn't hesitate to use good liquid gasket, it was what I found on my motor when I took it apart and it was obviously holding up just fine. This was a blue colored liquid too.

Just go to the store get the cork gasket for your KA24DE, use RTV with it, and you will be fine. Do the job once.
