1989 nissan 240sx ka24e

hey guys; i'm currently installing a complete timing kit with the following: # 1 Cam Gears# 1 Crank Gear# 1 Rearing Tensioner# 1 Guide Right# 1 Timing chain# 1 Guide Left

i'm not dropping the oil pan; the pan has that kind of gasket that comes in a long box. so i'm thinking of just adding some RTV silicone to that small section were the timing cover joins with the pan. I'm thinking of adding some silicone under the original gasket & of course some over it.

SO WHAT DO U GUYS THINK; WILL THIS WORK? HAS ANYBODY TRIED THIS..................................MAN I REALLY DON'T WANT TO DROP THAT PAN!

p.s. what's the deal with those two gears; read that i need to wedge something like a crow bar some were between then to be able to remove that huge cam bolt. sounds kind of barbaric for a delicate piece of machinery to me. any suggestions ???

It might work but I would not recommend it the gasket is made to seal on its own without the sealer. I know it sucks to pull the pan but if your going to do it do it right or pay someone to do it right. but that is just my opinion.

For the cam bolt, insert a larger screw driver or pry bar in through one of the holes on the left side of the gear. You want to use the lowest hole possible so that the screw driver is resting flush with the head.I can't remember what size the nut is, but when loosening apply firm pressure to the wrench. Do not jerk it. Be steady.Keep track of the timing marks as the gear will turn a little bit. When you install the new gear, simply place the screwdriver over to the right side. Torque to spec. Also, when I say larger screwdriver, I mean the thickest one that will fit in the sprocket holes. I hope I did not confuse you, but all the same it's not rocket science either.Good luck with the project.

will that work the same way with the bolt on the lower pulley;that's the pulley before removing the front cover; it spins also when trying to remove it. read that i'm soposed to put in 5th gear, but mine is an automatic.

An impact gun really works best. Other way is to put car in gear and put brakes on also put a prybar on the brake pedal really hard or have someone hold the brake for you and put a huge extension on a breaker bar.

Edit: just saw that your auto. Just put that car in drive or 1 or 2. Just as long as the car is in gear.

OR, you can uses your breaker bar and the cars starter =) Put the bar on the bolt with the handle near or resting on the ground. Be sure that when the engine cranks it will be going in the correct direction! Now, tap the starter a few times until the bolt breaks loose. For install just put the bar under the frame on the driver side and repeat. Just be careful (i.e. don't put your hand down there while this is going on, you can break your arm. And make sure the socket is snuggy on the crank bolt)
