I pulled the front of the motor off come to find out that the guides were already replaced.. Pondered for a bit, then I came to the conclusion that the f***ers at the dealership probably did not want to go through the trouble of dropping the pan. Therefore, plastic from the guides must have jammed the oil pump. Sound like I'm on the right track ? If so, then can I cut a corner by slightly raising the motor with a jack and have clearance to drop the pan? Or do I need a hoist ?

Ok guess I over looked that post lolSo only reason for hoist is to take tension off of transmission not for clearance?I should have enough clearance w/o hoist?

No idea about the clearance, but yet its just to take off the tension from the bell housing.

Admire your perseverance.

I think the cross member may get in the way. The real advantage of suspending the engine if you can get it high enough is replacing the front motor mounts.

Thank you again.I will drop the front no doubt. Is it necessary to replace the mounts on a '92 ? I guess it's just another reason to spend 80 bucks lol

It is a good thing to do as it will keep your drive train in better alignment and lessen torque rotation of the engine.

The former presumes you keep the 3rd motor (transmission) mount refreshed also. Helps extend driveshaft and differential input shaft bearing life.
