I found a solid deal on a magnetic block heater, thing is that its magnetic... and would only stick to steel . So does anyone know if the Vq35DE uses a steel or aluminum pan before I spend $50 on this sucker??

I don't know for sure, but my guess would be steel. Aluminum is too soft for an oil pan on an SUV. I'm sure the Nissan engineers weren't too concerned with reducing vehicle weight either.

You could always just grab a magnet and crawl under there find out real quick. And just my 2 cents, I think those stick on heaters are a waste. You would be better off getting one that goes in where the freeze plugs are. That is one of the things on my list to do to my Pathy when I get a chance. I found a place awhile ago that has them I just needed to measure my freeze plugs.

I'd think that if you wanted to heat the block, you would stick the magnet on theblock, not the oil pan.

Vq is aluminum, no magnets sticking to that block lol

The cold oil startups in -25 weather is what bothers me, getting it up to temp would be great!!
