No, you need to replace your valvle cover gaskets/RTV.

Have you done your under plenum rehabilitation? If not, now is a great time to plan a comprehensive one.

It would be helpful if you completed your profile so we knew more about your car.

Could it have been that someone changed the valve cover gasket once upon a time and did not include the O-dougnuts that seal off the plug chambers. Maybe they just degenerated with age? Are the valve cover nuts reasonably tight?

It's actually a common issue with the older Qs. Last time I replaced my plugs, I had the same issue too. The oil actually does no harm and I'm sure you didn't notice any adverse effects till you pulled the plug. I'm not saying don't fix it, I'm just saying it's not a big deal.

Here's a writeup on the actual process:

http://www.q45.org/plenum.html

At some time soon, your fuel, vacuum and/or coolant hoses under the plenum will deteriorate to the point that they'll start leaking. The knock sensors are also probably not functional anymore, either. To get to either, the plenum has to come off - something you probably don't want to do more than once. So, it's economical to deal with everything under the plenum at once.

The valve covers can be done separately, but there isn't much additional labor to do them when you do the under-plenum work, too.
