If there is residue on the plug, you can tell if it's fuel or oil. Fuel residue will be crusty and break apart on your fingers. Oil will smear. Also, if the oil on the plugs is very fluid, it may have leaked down the plug when you pulled it if the plug cavity was full of oil.

I'm pretty sure it's not fouled, i put the plugs in when i bought the car and it hasnt ran since (it has only been cranked over) and all the other plugs still look as if they were just removed from the packaging. I guess i'll have to see where a compression test puts me. Thanks guys

My car has the same problem only it smells and looks like fuel but with a little oil mixed in. I just changed them today so its fresh on my mind, the coil packs boots have oil on them too and 2 of them (both on drivers side) were ripped? How does that happen? I just recently bought the car so I do not know when the last time it was serviced. Oh and it was missing a little bit thats why i changed them. Any help would be great. Thanks, Tim
