Just changed the spark plugs on my 04 G35, first time in 95k miles as far as I know (bought the car with 60k), and there appears to be oil on the spark plug threads (all but one). It's not the dark grimy color you would expect after years of build up, but rather a light mostly transparent substance. Could this be old worn out anti-seize compound or do I have a more serious problem (leaking valve cover gaskets, etc.).?

Unfortunately you have to buy the entire valve cover setup to replace the gasket though.

My spark plug holes didn't look anything like that link you sent. I didn't see any oil puddled in the holes, it was pretty dry. The threads on the spark plugs was where I noticed what appeared to be oil. Perhaps it was a transparent anti-seize compound (does that exist)?

Your gasket is leaking, probably not as severe as it could be. There is no other reason to have oil around the spark plug threads.

very common issue

some people have had decent luck taking off the valve covers and using RTV to make a gasket
