Sounds like the typical symptom of a valve cover gasket leaking into the spark plug well. If you've never changed the valve cover gaskets, consider doing it since the oil leaking into there will eventually damage the coil also.

The 90 thru 93 models use RTV instead of gaskets. On my 91 model the first RTV job was performed by the dealer at 60,000 and was leaking on CYLS 1 and 2 at 114,000 miles. I used Permatex Ultra when I resealed mine at ~115,000.

I reade on Q45.org(the link, finally-got-around-to-replacing-the-dri ... 07690.html) guy said it took him 3 hrs to do, Is there really 100 screws to take off? In the trext, it seems fairly straight forward to do, on a scale from 1-10, how difficult is it... I want to do it tomorrow morning,

It's more difficult on the 90-93 because you have to take time to scrape off the old RTV and clean the mating surfaces. I would allow about 8 hours per side... but I tend to take my time on these things. Take time to clean up the residue on the underside of the covers while you have them off.

You'll also want to allow several hours (or preferably overnight) to let the RTV set up. If you start the car up as soon as you get everything back together the "squeeze out" of the RTV will fall off and make a stinking mess on the exhaust manfolds - and you'll get a poor seal.

Be sure to buy new "half moon" inserts for the heads, and replace the o-rings that fit on the platforms that stick up between the spark plug holes to hold the bolts that hold down the covers in the middle. In a pinch I've seen RTV applied to the top of the old o-rings.

The 91, 92, or 93 FSM will give you more information and torque specs... www.nicoclub.com/FSM/

Good luck!

I seen a kit with black silicone, 4 half moons, and 2 o'rings. Where do the half moons and the 2 o'rings go.

Not sure about to o-rings. Do you have a link to this kit?

It took me about two days each side. I was doing it for the first time outside in 90*F heat. I did not drive the car for two weeks. No job is difficult if you have the right tools, time and organization.

See page EM-25 in the 1991 FSM I linked for the half moons. The o-rings aren't quite as obvious in the pictures - but once you pull the cover it'll be obvious. There are a couple of bolts that go through the middle of the cover near the coil packs, and the o rings go to the mating surface there.

Usually the fitst plug on each side leaks. It is time to pull the valve covers and replace the half moons at the rear and the orings on the supports. Many on here use permatex ultra gray rtv.
