About to do an oil change on a 1999 I30. How much oil does the car hold and typically what weight oil is good for this car in the winter time?

Also, where is the filter located? Do I acess it from the engine or underneath the car? Is it hard to get to?

Thanks

I think spec for the I30 (VG30de) V6 engine is 4.0 quarts. I'd buy 5 quarts... put in 3.5 and check the level on the dipstick... then add more to fill to the proper line on the dip stick.

Changing your oil to a lighter weight in the winter can help your engine start more dependably. On a cold morning, a heavy weight oil is thicker and harder for your engine to circulate. In addition, overly thick oil can leave engine parts unprotected when you start up.

I'm not familiar with the VG engine... but I'm sure your owner's manual will say where the oil filter is located. Most likely it's on the passenger side of the engine block.. accesable from underneath. not sure though.. Give it a good look.. you'll find it... they don't hide those things intentionally..

Good luck!
