I searched, and it came up empty...

I want to put Mobil 1 synthetic on my next oil change (the dealer gave me free for the year, so i've been using that). How long can I leave it in there without it A) going bad and B) causing a warranty issue?

I just want to know if I can take it to 10k miles, or if Nissan is going to moan and groan over not having it changed every 3750...

I use Mobil 1 full synthetic. It good till like 5k miles i think. Im not too sure. I change mine between every 3-4k miles. Im not too sure if you would want to go to 10k miles. Im not too sure though, my dealer didn't offer me free changes for a year...

It's not that I would take it to 10k (though M1 claims it can go that far and beyond), I just was curious how the warranty would go on that if I were to do it every 5k or something...

Ive been on mobil 1 synth for around a yr now... Changing it at 4,500-5k miles...

Amsoil claims their synthetic doesnt need to be changed for 15k! You can also send them samples to test the degrading oil and see if it needs to be swapped out... but the stuff is expensive...

Switch to synthetic.. change it every 5k and you should be good to go... as far as warranty is concerned... idk as they try and hammer you anywhere they can!

Are you kidding? Unles you're taking your car to Jiffy Lube then yeah I'd say change it every 3K. But Mobil 1 is a great oil hands down. You don't need to change it every 3K. That's all I EVER use in all of my cars and bikes, Hell, for that matter, I use Mobil 1 on my zero turn! It all depends what kind of driving you do. I do a lot of highway so I change my oil every 7K and even then when I change it, it's still amber and when you touch the oil, it doesn't even stain your fingers which means the viscosity hasn't broke down yet. If you do a lot of stop and go, using Mobil 1, you'd be fine changing it every 5K.

I wanna try royal purple next. $8.00 a quart! :oy I hear that's the cat's a$$ in oil performance though

If you do your own oil changes, just be sure to save your receipts. What I do is when I buy the oil filter, which is OEM) and the oil, I staple the receipts to the maintenance book they give you.

It depends on my mood - sometimes i do my own, other times i take it to our midas, as they can do it really quickly (lifts FTW) and I know the guys that are doing the changes and I stand and talk with them while they do it. But I always keep reciepts - i have a folder in my glove box

Is that legit? I was planning a while back on having my boyfriend do my oil changes since Jiffy Lube charges WAY too much all of a sudden, but someone I know told me doing your own oil changes voids the warranty so I've been iffy.. but if saving receipts of oil and filter purchases is all I need to do, then I'll never pay for an oil change again! hehe.

With any full synthetic, especially Mobil 1, changing before the 5k-7k mark is a colossal waste of money. Quick lube places will always say to change at 3k....but you can guess why they do that. The best person to ask is a local mechanic who has nothing to gain by jacking up an oil change cost since it most likely isn't part of their core business.

I double check with Nissan when I picked up an Oil Filter, $12.99 is pretty expensive for an OEM, K&N cost me $14.99. They said as long as you saved your Parts Receipts, you shouldn't have any problems with Warranty.

BTW, I use Castrol German Synthec 0W-30 every 6-7k/km, depends how much I "push" her.

Doing a lotttt of research online there are varied opinions. The only reason one should change every 3 thou miles if they are using conventional oils. But Mobile1 company and users of the brand let it go to 10-15 miles and report no signs of engine damage. The technology of synthetic oils is so great that there is absolutely no reason to change it at 3 or even 5 thousand miles. BMW suggests to change oil every 15000 miles and they use synthetic. I personally use Mobile1 extended performance (even though most say it is the same thing as Mobile1) and change it every 10 thousand miles. I don't think there is a clear cut correct answer you can find with information, the best way is to experience it yourself

Yes it is Legit. I asked that question also to the service dept and they told me as long I have supporting receipts it's all good!

$12.99 for OEM? :oy It's a good thing I live in the states. My cost for an OEM filter is only $4.26

changing your oil and filter costs how much? 35bucks? i hate people who try to be cheap in this category and well blah blah blah every 5k every 7k every 10k jesus man wtf are you trying to save 35 bucks and push your oil to 10 k thats just stupid. I use mobil 1 and i do change it and the filter every 3k which is premature for what this oil can do but it only costs 35 beans that is soo little for your engine to keep fresh oil in it especially us spirited drivers.

I have the service dept. at the dealer put in synthetic and they told me to change it every 4500-5000 miles. Seems consistent with what most are saying.

My dad puts synthetic in his Cadillacs and they tell him to change it every 10-15k...

5K with synth under normal driving conditions is very safe. Hell thats safe under agreesive as well, if you change synth less than 5K you wasting a ton of money. Audi's recommendation is every 7K on regular up to 15K on synth.

We are all discussing our experience... while none of us are actually made of used oil (synthetic at that)...

For all you guys who swear on changing it every 3k with synthetic.. if it makes you feel better.. DO IT!

The only TRUE way to see whats going on is to take a sample of your used oil and send it to the lab... again, i know amsoil offers this service.. and theres endless data/discussion you can read all over the place... some with a bias (put out by the companies selling the product).

In the end its going to wind up being your preference... Sure theres some oils that say they dont need to be changed for 15k (amazing how technology has come so far!)... and theres some that says it should be changed every 3k...

Regardless of what way you look at the situation, i think we can ALL agree that synthetic oil has proven itself to be a good change from conventional oil...

At the end it's what makes you feel comfortable. I agree $35 is nothing, I spend at least $50+ a month on Starbucks.

My last two oil changes I did, I used mobil 1 full synthetic oil and filter. I just did an oil change two weeks ago after about 5k miles. I was expecting with a new engine (10K miles), the oil should be clean, but the oil came out as dark as dark chocolate.

I did an oil change for my father's 91 toyota corolla with 123K miles (which hadn't been changed for a year) and the oil came out like the first day I pour them in.

I've heard a few people saying that new car will have dirty oil compare to cars with 30k miles or more due to internal stuff (like gaskets are fully sealed, etc...)

Conventional every 3k miles

Synthetic blend every 5-7k miles

Fully Synthetic every 9-12k miles

If you aren't changing your oils in those particular ranges, you are just wasting money. Oils are formulated to take a beating up until those ranges. As soon as I bought my coupe I dumped out the conventional oil and put in Full Synthetic. I've always run my car hard so I change mine every 9k miles. In my BMW I did it this way, and in the coupe I do it this way. I've never noticed a change in power except in maybe my last 500 miles of oil life. We have a 98 325i back in Virginia and it has 225,000 miles on it. We've been using Fully Synthetic in since around the 25k mark, and have never looked back. Changed it every 10k miles, and its never had a viscosity problem.
